Linfield are on the road for Matchday 28 of the Sports Direct Premiership, travelling to Lurgan to face Glenavon at Mourneview Park (3pm k.o. all-ticket). The teams have already met twice this season with Linfield winning both games.
Glenavon will have been disappointed with their last outing when they were knocked out of the Clearer Water Irish Cup in a heavy 0-5 defeat at Larne. Linfield, by contrast, will have been pleased with their 2-0 win over Ballymena Utd in the same competition.
With plenty of league points still to play for, The Lurgan Blues will look to push on towards the top half of the Sports Direct Premiership table. Manager Stephen McDonnell has displayed some considerable acumen since taking over the reins at the club in September, and the Dundalk man pulled off a shrewd piece of business during the January transfer window with the signing of former Linfield goalkeeper Gareth Deane from Coleraine.
As the ‘split’ in the Sports Direct Premiership moves ever closer, Linfield find themselves well placed at the top of the table. On Saturday David Healy’s side will be determined to stay ahead of the chasing pack with a match winning performance at Mourneview.
At this stage of the season it is all about putting as many points as possible on the board.
