BOXING DAY DERBY: LINFIELD V GLENTORAN

Linfield travel to East Belfast to face Glentoran in their latest Sports Direct Premiership game (The Oval, 7.45pm k.o. all-ticket), the first ‘Big Two’ derby game of the season. There is live coverage of this game on BBC2 NI, BBC Sports website, and the BBC iPlayer.

Glentoran have made a strong start to the season and remain unbeaten, 3 points clear at the top of the table. In their last outing they defeated Ballymena United 2-0 at The Showgrounds. Manager Declan Devine has added experience to his squad with ex Derry City striker Pat Hoban and former Crusaders duo Daniel Larmour and Jordan Stewart all signing on at The Oval.

Linfield maintained their 100% start to the domestic season with a 3-0 home win over Portadown. The Blues have steadfastly remained in the top half of the table despite the postponement of 3 Premiership fixtures, the result of an extended European campaign.

With both teams in good form it promises to be an evenly contested game with fine margins and a few key moments likely dictating the final result. With the travelling Linfield faithful at full throttle, there is sure to be an electric atmosphere under The Oval floodlights.

Hopefully David Healy’s men can bring their ‘A game’ to the stage and leave with 3 points.
