The stage is set for the always eagerly anticipated Boxing Day ‘Big Two’ derby as Linfield face Glentoran at Windsor Park (3pm k.o. all-ticket). The old rivals met earlier in the season, sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw at The Oval in September.
In their last outing Glentoran returned to winning ways putting league leaders Coleraine to the sword (2-1) at home – a result which keeps the East Belfast side 4th in the table. Manager Declan Devine will look for another big performance from his players in the Windsor Park cauldron.
By contrast, Linfield were disappointed to lose 1-2 to basement club Glenavon at Mourneview Park. The Blues sit 3rd in the table and Manager David Healy will send his men out to strive for full points in pursuit of another Gibson Cup win.
It promises to be another tense afternoon for both sets of supporters with 3 precious points and bragging rights up for grabs. Linfield will need to bring their ‘A’ game to the table if they are to send the Linfield faithful home full of festive cheer.
