This Friday evening at 5:00pm, Linfield FC and the Linfield Graves Project will proudly unveil the restored grave of club legend Tommy Sloan at Seagoe Cemetery, Portadown.
With the fixture having been rescheduled from Saturday to Friday evening, arrangements have been challenging to finalise, but we are delighted that this important tribute can now take place.
We appreciate that the earlier time may not be convenient for everyone who is working or travelling, but we would greatly welcome a strong turnout from supporters, representatives of Linfield and Portadown FC, and members of the Sloan family for a short service (approximately 15–20 minutes) in Tommy’s memory.
A true icon of Irish football, Tommy Sloan won the FA Cup with Cardiff City in 1927 before returning home to captain Linfield to both Irish League and Irish Cup success. He later took charge of Portadown, leading them to their first senior trophy, the Gold Cup, with a memorable victory over Glentoran.
The service will take place at Seagoe Cemetery (59 Seagoe Road, beside Milne Funeral Services), where supporters can pay their respects to one of the great figures of Irish football history.
