Linfield Football Club can confirm that club captain Jamie Mulgrew has signed a one-year contract extension, committing his future to Windsor Park as he approaches another milestone in his career.
Mulgrew, who first joined the Blues in June 2005, is now closing in on 21 years of service to the club. The midfielder has made an astonishing 822 appearances for Linfield, placing him second on the club’s all-time appearance list behind the legendary Noel Bailie MBE.
Despite turning 40 next month, Mulgrew has made it clear that he still believes he has plenty to offer on the pitch. Speaking after putting pen to paper, the Linfield captain expressed his pride in continuing his journey with the club.
“I’m delighted to continue on playing here.” Mulgrew said. “I’ve been here a long time and I know what is expected and what is required.”
Widely regarded as one of Linfield’s all-time greats, Jamie’s leadership has been central to the club’s success over the years. His experience will be seen as invaluable heading into what he has described as a “big season for the club.”
“I wanted to see where I was at.” he added. “I needed to make sure I’m still capable of what is required, we all know what is required to play at this club. I have been working hard behind the scenes to make sure I’m still in a place that I know I can contribute.”
Manager David Healy MBE added “It’s been a real privilege to work with and manage Jamie Mulgrew over the past ten and a half seasons. Jamie is an outstanding professional, and the standards he sets both on and off the pitch are invaluable, qualities you simply can’t buy. Throughout the season, Jamie, Willie and I had open and honest discussions about his future, and he’s proven he still has the ability to compete and make a strong contribution at this level. We’re delighted to have him with us for another season as he continues to add to an already remarkable career at Linfield.”
Everyone at Linfield FC will be hoping our long-serving captain can continue to inspire both on and off the pitch as he adds another chapter to an already remarkable career.
