Linfield Football Club was today pleased to welcome the Irish Taoiseach to Windsor Park on a courtesy visit. Mr Varadkar met with club officials and also visited an Academy training session at New Midgley Park.
Club Chairman Roy McGivern commented:
“I was pleased to welcome the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to Windsor Park this afternoon. We are an open and inclusive club at all levels and this was an opportunity to highlight the outreach work of our club right across all sections of the community during his visit to Northern Ireland.
The Taoiseach attended an Academy training session at New Midgley Park and we were delighted to showcase the excellent work being taken forward in our full-time Scholarship programme to a wider audience. Our Head of Youth, Glenn Ferguson, along with Swifts coach Michael Gault were all in attendance to demonstrate the success of this programme which will continue to grow in the 2023/24 season.
I believe our Academy Scholarship programme is one of the best on this island and, whilst others will try to replicate this, we believe that Linfield FC remains in a prime position to attract the best young football talent from across the country”
