Match 32 of the Sports Direct Premiership sees Linfield back on home turf against Glenavon in the final pre-split home game. (3pm k.o.). The teams have met twice previously this season, Linfield winning 3-0 at Mourneview Park and 1-0 at Windsor Park.
Glenavon’s campaign has been challenging and inconsistent although current manager Paddy McLaughlin has steered the club clear of the relegation places, and in their most recent game they picked up a deserved point against Glentoran at The Oval.
One of the Lurgan side’s most vaunted players has been Chris Atherton, a 16-year-old who made his senior debut aged 13 years and 329 days and he will certainly be one to watch.
Linfield continued their relentless pursuit of The Gibson Cup last time out at Seaview, defeating Crusaders 2-0 thanks to second half goals from the Matthews, Orr and Fitzpatrick. This was a tightly contested affair and increased the lead at the top of the table to 19 points.
However, David Healy will expect a tough 90 minutes against The Lurgan Blues as the finishing line approaches. Who knows, there could be a Spanish flavour to the day with the possible addition of new signing Alejandro Rodriguez Gorrin to the matchday squad?
