BOXING DAY DERBY: LINFIELD V GLENTORAN

Linfield enjoy home advantage against Portadown in Saturday’s Sports Direct Premiership game at Windsor Park (3pm k.o. all-ticket).

The Co. Armagh side have had a mixed start to the season and sit  5th in the table after 2 wins in 5 games played. In their last outing they defeated visitors Crusaders 2-1 with Linfield loanee Rhys Annett finding the net, although the striker will not be available against his parent club.

There was a busy revolving door at Shamrock Park during the summer with no fewer than 9 departures and 6 arrivals at the club as manager Niall Currie looks to push his team on from last season’s 8th place finish in the table.

Linfield return to the defence of their Premiership title after a hectic European campaign saw the postponement of 3 league fixtures. Manager David Healy will look for more of the same from his players after their resounding mid-week win over visitors Harland & Wolff Welders (6-1) in the Co. Antrim Senior Shield.

As the title race begins to take shape it is essential that The Blues continue to build up momentum with a 3rd league win on the bounce for a start.
