On a fresh, crisp Saturday morning it was great to see a good turn out at the City Cemetery for the unveiling of the newly restored grave of Marshall McEwan. Marshall was a former club captain and one of Linfield’s all-time greats.
Among those gathered was the club Chairman & Chaplin as well as members of the board and Club Ambassadors – Eric Bowyer & Alan Frazer. Members of the Linfield History Society & the Linfield Supporters Trust were also represented.
A special thank you must go to Adam (Bolton Wanderers), David (Everton), Rachel & Robert (Chelsea) and John & Simmsy (Blackpool) who were present to represent Marshall’s four other clubs, all of which still remember Marshall fondly.
The Chairman welcomed everyone and handed over to club member Michael Cockcroft who is the driving force behind the ‘Linfield Graves Project‘. Michael gave a recap of how, on being informed of the sad state of Marshall’s grave that he began the journey to restore the grave to its former glory. He then gave a powerful recap of the life & footballing career of Marshall McEwan.
Club Chaplin Paul Reid then rededicated the grave with prayer and a fitting talk & tribute to Marshall.
Thankfully the rain stayed away and the sun was actually trying to come out as the short ceremony came to a conclusion.
