Fitzpatrick was a late starter in terms of his football career. In his younger days he was with Glentoran Reserves before a spell with Immaculata in the Premier Division of the Amateur League.
Due to his involvement with the Antrim GAA team, it wasn’t until September 2019 – when he was aged 25 – that the striker nailed his focus to football rather than GAA as he signed for Belfast Celtic (formerly Sport & Leisure Swifts). He scored 9 goals in 15 appearances on Glen Road, catching the eye of Coleraine who signed the forward in January 2020. However, appearances for a competitive and settled Coleraine team were limited to just five before the Covid-19 pandemic struck, which prompted a move to Gary Hamilton’s Glenavon.
In his three years at Mourneview Park, Fitzpatrick bagged 46 goals and assisted 11 times in 116 appearances for the Lurgan Blues. In the 2022/23 season he bagged 19 goals for a Glenavon team that finished in 7th position which attracted the interest of Linfield.
David Healy then brought 29-year-old Fitzpatrick to Linfield for an undisclosed fee on May 30, 2023, with the forward taking a career break from his career as a teacher to sign a two-year contract. Fitzpatrick opted for his preferred squad number 29, which he also occupied at Glenavon.
He made his Linfield debut in a 3-1 home win in a UEFA Conference League Q1 clash against KF Vllaznia of Albania on July 13, 2023, and he scored his first goal for the Blues in a 2-0 home league win over Crusaders on September 26, 2023. Fitzpatrick scored eleven goals in 48 appearances in his debut season at Linfield, as well as winning the NIFL League Cup which was his first winners’ medal in senior football.
Fitzpatrick penned a new two-year contract extension in January 2025 that will see him stay at the club until the summer of 2027.
