BOXING DAY DERBY: LINFIELD V GLENTORAN

Linfield are on the road this weekend, travelling to Lurgan to face Glenavon at Mourneview Park (3pm k.o. all-ticket). The teams met earlier in the season at Windsor Park with Linfield winning 2-0.

Glenavon have endured a difficult season and are battling hard for Premiership survival, sitting at the foot of the Sports Direct Premiership table 8 points away from safety. Manager Michael O’Connor will now have to cope without the services of experienced striker David McDaid following his surprise departure to PLAYR-FIT Intermediate side Portstewart. With some big decisions to make, the Glenavon manager will be primed to do business in the notoriously difficult January transfer window.

Linfield recorded a comprehensive 4-0 win over Crusaders at Windsor Park in the first of a challenging run of games in the congested festive fixture list. David Healy, fresh from renewing the contracts of a number of important players, Kirk Millar the latest, will expect a tough afternoon against a Glenavon side determined to turn their season around.
