Representatives from both Linfield FC and Portadown FC came together ahead of kick-off for the official unveiling of the restored grave of Tommy Sloan at Seagoe Cemetery, paying tribute to a man who served both clubs with distinction.
The ceremony was organised by the Linfield Graves Project, with founder Michael Cockcroft welcoming everyone in attendance and sharing Linfield’s version of events from Tommy Sloan’s remarkable footballing career. Michael reflected on Sloan’s achievements and his lasting legacy within the Linfield family.
Portadown FC Historian Trevor Clydesdale then spoke warmly about Sloan’s 40 years of dedicated service to the Ports, recounting his immense contribution both on and off the pitch.
Members of the Sloan family were also present for the occasion, including Tommy’s son, daughter, and grandchildren, who expressed their gratitude for the care and respect shown in preserving his memory.
This touching event once again highlighted the unifying power of football and the importance of honouring those who helped shape its history.
Well done to Michael Cockcroft and the Linfield Graves Project team on another outstanding and meaningful restoration that ensures the legacy of one of local football’s great servants will be remembered for generations to come.
